Called to Preach Conference on September 4-5, 2008

The biennial preaching conference, sponsored by the Center for Preaching at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, exists to promote preaching excellence by modeling biblical preaching and equipping preachers with practical skills for proclaiming the Word of God.

Called to Preach is our upcoming preaching conference that will take place on September 4-5, 2008. Pastors, students, ministry spouses, and others who have accepted the call to preach to this generation will gather together for worship, training, and inspiring preaching.

At this conference, participants will be equipped with new tools and a renewed passion to preach through a fantastic line-up of accomplished preachers and an array of learning opportunities. The schedule includes: four opportunities to worship God together and listen to inspiring sermons, three teaching sessions covering the important topics of Called to Character, Called to Shepherd, and Called to Love Your World, and the chance to attend two workshops which will equip you with new tools for approaching the fundamentals of preaching.

Workshops

Conference participants will be able to choose from a variety of workshops where they will have the chance to receive instruction in a smaller setting and interact with instructors. Workshops will be led by Gordon-Conwell faculty and area pastors and will focus on practical instruction that will help you improve your preaching.

Alumni/ae Events

Alumni/ae will be given a special opportunity to connect with professors, ministry colleagues, and past graduates of Gordon-Conwell in the alumni reception area and during the alumni lunch.

	Dr. Haddon Robinson President Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary South Hamilton, Massachusetts Dr. Robinson is recognized as one of the 12 most effective preachers in the English-speaking world. He is the author of Biblical Preaching, which is used in over 120 seminaries and Bible colleges worldwide. He serves as a contributing editor for Preaching, and a Fellow and Senior Editor for Christianity Today and Preaching Today.
	Dr. Joseph Stowell President *Cornerstone University* Grand Rapids, Michigan Dr. Joe Stowell’s first love is Jesus Christ and preaching His Word. An internationally recognized conference speaker and author, he has written numerous books including The Trouble with Jesus, Following Christ, and Radical Reliance. He recently served as the teaching pastor at Harvest Bible Chapel in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. He served as the seventh president of The Moody Bible Institute from 1987-2005.
	Ruth Haley Barton President and Co-Founder *The Transforming Center* Wheaton, Illinois Ruth co-founded and currently leads a ministry that provides spiritual care and formation for pastors and Christian leaders. She has served on staff at Willow Creek Community Church. She provides teaching and training in the areas of spiritual formation, community building and discernment. She is the author of several books, including Strengthening the Soul of Your Leadership, Sacred Rhythms, and An Ordinary Day with Jesus (co-authored with John Ortberg).
	Dr. Crawford Loritts Senior Pastor *Fellowship Bible Church* Roswell, Georgia For over 30 years, Crawford served with Campus Crusade for Christ in Atlanta, most recently as Associate Director of U.S. Ministries. He co-founded Oakcliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas and is a featured speaker for Promise Keepers, Family Life, and Urban Family conferences. He is the host of the daily radio broadcast Living a LegacyNever Walk Away, Make It Home Before Dark, Lessons from a Life Coach and most recently For a Time We Cannot See. and is a published author of four books, including
	Dr. David Hansen Senior Pastor *Kenwood Baptist Church* Cincinnati, Ohio David is a pastor’s pastor. He is in the trenches of ministry and understands the daily challenges of a pastor. He serves as a contributing editor to Leadership Journal, as well as having authored several books, including The Art of Pastoring and Loving the Church You Lead.
	Dr. Timothy Tennent Professor of World Mission Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary South Hamilton, Massachusetts Dr. Tennant is an expert on world religions and missions. He has taught in India, China, Nigeria, and Eastern Europe. Dr. Tennant is the author of several books, including Christianity at the Religious Roundtable and Theology in the Context of World Christianity. He has also pastored churches in Georgia and Massachusetts.
